Woke up before my alarm for the 2nd day in a row. That doesn't happen much.

Just wanted to post some most excellent American Gladiators valentine's day cards for all of you.

Cards below... )

Random weird stuff lately:

1) I got 2 blisters on my hand from trying to open a Gatorade bottle. It took 2 people and several layers of skin to finally get that thing open. I swear it was super-glued on or something.

2) We officially broke the snowfall record. Hooray? Close to 80 inches now and it's very likely we'll get a significant amount of snow yet this year.

3) After being sick for most of January, I'm finally working out with the personal trainer again. My health seems solid so hopefully I'll get back on track and will continue doing well. (I'm still in remarkably better overall shape than last year at this time.) I'm also unbelievably sore, it hurts so bad to lift my arms to shoulder height.

4) I'm either sleeping 6 hours or 10-12 hours a night. This probably isn't a good thing. I don't really know why my sleep schedule is so messed up right now.

5) It's birthday season! I was at a birthday party last weekend, got one friday and Kellie's birthday is tomorrow. Heck, even my own birthday is pretty close.

6) Still way busier than normal at work for this time of year. That's both good and bad (good for the store, bad for me).

7) Jimmy the Groundhog is a dirty lying rodent.

Okay this winter is getting ridiculous now. It was extremely cold Sunday and today and we'll likely break the snowfall record this evening (yes, that's the most snow in 120 something years). I am so ready for spring at this point.

I've spent most of the week battling sinus issues so not a whole lot has happened lately.

American Gladiators is almost as wonderful as I had hoped (minus cutting to commercials at the start of events, so annoying and missing the wonderful classic theme song is an outrage). I'll watch it every week.

Otherwise the rest of my time has been spent going in and out of coherency all week. Made it to work the last couple days with limited success.

Today's Dinosaur Comic is about how everything can be improved with explosions, which I totally agree with.

Read it here:

and then watch this YouTube clip from the long-forgotten movie Last Action Hero:

Sometimes I forget how awesome that otherwise "meh" movie was at times.

Well it's cold and snowy but I could say that about every day this month so far. As usual, we're getting more snow than was predicted. Since I walk 30 minutes each way to work...yeah, it's been great.

Started with a new personal trainer after my old one left the gym. I think this will work out well, we're doing a lot of different exercises that seem targeted towards mobility/agility as well as weight loss and general fitness. Less strength training is probably okay if we work on that more.

Other than that, I'm just really sick of snow. I had a 4 day weekend but spent 3 days sick and the other day at the dentist to get some routine maintenance stuff done.

Is it spring yet?

  • Am I getting ripped off rent-wise in 30 day months or am I getting a free day in 31 day months?

  • Why does it cost more/less to live in an apartment depending on the month?

  • Futurama DVD movie comes out tomorrow. I don't think I've been this excited in years.

  • Thanksgiving was wonderful. All my favorite foods and my family, hooray!

  • Dell Vostros ship with a terrible initial installation of Windows. I've had 2 of the 3 I've worked on get a "Black Screen of Not Loading" on bootup due to bad DLLs. My working theory is that one of the uninstallers for the preloaded software is messing stuff up. One of these years I'll learn to just wipe the damn things right off the bat.

  • I'm so incredibly sick of the Black Friday stuff. I refuse to take part in any of it. I purposely sleep in as late as my body will let me on that day now. It's wonderful.

  • Speaking of sleep, I think I'm finally caught up on it for the first time since June.

  • The Dell Christmas Dog wishes you happy holidays and still wants to eat your soul.

Work continues on my Halloween costume (if I forgot to mention, I'm doing Mad Max from the first movie). I got a decent amount accomplished this weekend, as I found an acceptable pair of sunglasses for $5 (they're not perfect but they're very similar and I can't argue with the price) and I got the shoulder caps for the jacket done. I still have to attach them but that shouldn't be hard. The expensive part was ordering the pants and boots but I found a decent deal for them online. I almost got an amazing deal at a thrift shop on the pants but they were one size too small on the only pair they had that would work. Ah well.

The only things I have left to do are to assemble everything and wait for my package to arrive. I need to make some slight modifications on the jacket and work on the badge too but that shouldn't be hard. I'm actually pretty excited about this costume, it's the first good costume I've done in many years and didn't just throw together. I'll try to get some good pictures taken.

In other news, it's the last week of ultimate frisbee league, which is both sad and good. Sad because it's stupidly fun, good because I'll be able to rearrange my schedule a bit and have more free time. I'll have to hit the gym more often to compensate for the lost exercise. My team finished 2nd in the regular season and this week is the playoffs. Hopefully we'll play 3 games this week, which means we made the finals. I've never been on that good of a team.

    Things to do this weekend:

    - Recover from being sick the last couple of days
    - Get out of my apartment and do some photography or something. It's a good time of year for it!
    - Work on my computer a bit, figure out the weird problems it has been having lately.
    - Review budget and find out if I have any money left to spend on my Halloween costume after paying for the computer
    - If I do have some money, get on teh intarwebs and order stuff so it will get here on time
    - If I don't have money, find out a way to do my costume on the cheap without it looking like crap

It seems pretty doable but busy as usual.

Been awhile since I've updated, sorry.

I feel like I've overextended myself lately. I'm doing something just about every night of the week and then trying to catch up on cleaning/organizing/seeing friends on the weekend. It makes me sort of glad that frisbee is going to be done in a few weeks - while I have a great time doing it and my team is awesome, it pretty much kills two evenings a week. Combine that with meeting with my trainer twice a week, Sunday pickup frisbee...yeah, not a whole lot of relaxing time.

I've been feeling kind of sick with the changing of the seasons. Heavy medication should help to remedy this.

I'm up to 12 lbs lost since the end of July. It's been pretty slow and steady so I'm confident it will stay off if I don't revert to my old eating habits. Since I like all the food I eat now, I don't see that happening.

I guess that's pretty much it. Well, bye!

So Dan is in-town, I'll see other people next week, I'm still rearranging my new apartment, it's been the busiest week of my life at work, I'm working out hard with my trainer and I'm radically altering my normal diet. Life is certainly not boring but it's certainly busy. A good kind of busy though!

I had my first real session with my personal trainer. The guy is good, he got me to do several lifts and stretches that I didn't think I could do. I'm not as bad as I thought I'd be last night which is good. Apparently my flexibility and leg strength is quite good while my upper body strength and core...not so much. That will change though! I honestly really had fun working out yesterday.

The interweb works at my place now, just have been really busy. Unpacking continues and should hopefully finish this weekend.

In a serious bid to get in-shape I joined a gym and hired a trainer. If that doesn't motivate me to do it, nothing will. Money will be a bit tighter but I can cut out some discretionary spending (less eating out saves a ton of money right there).

It's all been really busy at work. I've been covering Apple stuff all week and I'm also covering the Showroom this afternoon.

I managed to get somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 of my stuff moved this last weekend, probably would have done more if it hadn't been so oppressively hot. T was a big help - she's so good at keeping me motivated. I haven't seen enough of the Oshkosh people lately, I will have to remedy that sometime soon.

I'm still loving the new place. The building is a bit confusing to find my way around right now but I suspect that will clear up quickly. I still love the view and everything about the apartment. I'll have to learn to cook with an electric stove instead of a gas one again but I guess that's a minor complaint.

So far I break it down like this:

    Pros:
    - Amazing view
    - Much better location
    - More space to have people over
    - Vastly better kitchen (including dishwasher!)
    - Newer building in better condition
    - Attached health club!
    - Central air
    - Underground secure parking

    Cons:
    - Farther from work (but it's a more leisurely walk with better scenery)
    - Electric stove instead of gas
    - No more swimming pool (which only really matters 2-3 months a year)
    - I'll miss my luxuriously huge parking spot (they are much tighter at the new place)

For the first time, I feel like I'm going to be living in a building that is designed for a young professional like me. My old place was nice but still felt very college student-ish.

I picked up the keys to my new place this morning, it's even nicer than I remember it being. I think I made a wise choice. It will be so nice to have a dishwasher and a place that is conducive to having people over.

It also means I'm packing everything I own into boxes. Such a strange experience, to see every possession in your life changed into plain old brown boxes.

"Live Free or Die Hard" is showing at the Orpheum. I will definitely have to catch it there sometime soon.

I also bought a new toy. I like it a lot so far. Even without knowing crap about how to use it I'm already taking much nicer pictures. It's a good "serious amateur" camera.

    Also, OCTOSQUID.

That is all for now, peace out yo!

Well I made it back from my business trip to PA without incident.

I managed to strain just about every muscle in my right arm from bowling 7 straight games with a poorly fitting alley ball while I was out there. That, combined with getting my left wrist smashed up a bit in the frisbee game on Monday, gives me two owies.

Finally, I'm pretty sure Dinosaur Comics is the best thing in the history of the universe. I've said it before but it's still true.

Spring Ultimate Frisbee league ended yesterday. I can't say I was great (everyone in that ultracompetitive league is really good) but I had fun and I'm in much better shape than I was before Summer League last year. I'm injury-free and mostly healthy (curse you horrible horrible allergies) so hopefully I'll do well.

Otherwise, things are okay. Work is starting to get really busy for me and trade show season starts soon. I'm moving in a month and a half. It should be a busy but fun summer.

    1) New Van Damme movie today! Hooray!

    2) That 2 hour+ frisbee game yesterday has left me a bit sore. Spring league is full of a lot of awfully talented folks.

    3) I wish the rest of my body was as in shape as my legs are. They're seriously in the best shape of my life.

    4) I might be healthy for the first time this year. It's tough to tell with the worst allergies of my life.

Thanksgiving was delicious and wonderful. What a great holiday, no pressure or gift-buying, just eating delicious food.

I'm getting new glasses this weekend. Although I mainly wear contacts nowadays I do wear glasses if my allergies are bad. My current ones are horribly dated and nearly falling apart so it's time to spend the big money for a new pair. I'll post a picture once I get them, I think they look pretty sexy.

In bad news I think I might be getting a migraine. Boy do I hate those things.

I haven't updated this journal lately, my apologies.

I got a neato sinus infection right after I got back to Wisconsin. I'm guessing it was airplane-influenced. I'm almost over it now but it made this week suck pretty bad.

I played my best frisbee game ever last night. I caught two scoring passes and knocked down two. We won 13-5 despite playing the 2nd half down a player. There was also some arguments during the game, which is highly unusual for frisbee. It was cold but not as bad as last week.

With fall league done now I have to figure out what to do with myself. I think more DDR is on the agenda.

I played frisbee last night and it was about 20 degrees with a wind gusting to 30-40 MPH. It was a bit cold. By a bit cold I mean my hands were still cold 2 hours after the game. That said it was a blast.

This is the earliest I remember it being this cold in Madison. I'm hoping this doesn't mean it's going to be a long and cold winter.

I was away all weekend, first for my sister's bday and then my grandma's 91st. It was a long weekend and although I enjoyed it more than I thought I would I'm still rather tired. I didn't get back into Madison until about noon today.

Oh and I started cataloging my books since I always forget what books I own and what I've just read. The early results are at the link below:

    http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=kingcharlesxii

That's my 1.5 bookcases worth of books, I still have many more at home and more reference books in storage upstairs.
